Edu deadline day focus revealed amid late Arsenal £30m Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer twist

Arsenal are facing a busy end to the summer transfer window with a winger and central midfielder signingthought to be on the club's agenda.

Technical director Edu has been hard at work securing five new signings for Mikel Arteta's squad this summer, bringing in Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos. The Gunners have spent in excess of £100million for a second successive year with spending expected to continue into deadline day.

There have been plenty of outgoings from the Emirates Stadium as well, with Nuno Tavares and Nicolas Pepe leaving on-loan whilst Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira left on permanent deals to Fulham and Galatasaray respectively. Youri Tielemans, Pedro Neto, Mykaylo Mudryk and Julian Weigl have all been rumoured to be on Arsenal's shortlist, but following injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, it looks as though central midfield is a priority area to reinforce before the deadline.

Arsenal are now focusing on securing a new central midfield signing before the summer transfer window closes, according to The Athletic. The Gunners were looking to add a new winger to Mikel Arteta's squad as well, but with Partey and Elneny both having suffered injuries, Edu is now looking at finding a suitable option to add cover and quality to the midfield options at the club.

The north Londoners had been linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk talent Mykhaylo Mudryk, but now are focusing on other targets allowing Brentford to make a formal approach for the 21-year-old, repeating a similar transfer trick as they pulled with the signing of Aaron Hickey. Mudryk emerged as a target for the Gunners after they were priced out of a move for Wolves star Pedro Neto, with the Portuguese talent being valued at around £50million by the Midlands club.

Youri Tielemans continues to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, but Arsenal are willing to wait until next summer to sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer when his Leicester contract expires, football.london understands. The Belgium international has already agreed personal terms with the north London outfit, but the club may be forced into accelerating plans to sign Tielemans after reports emerged that a 'mystery club' had bid £19million for his services.

Benfica star Julian Weigl, who has been previously linked with a move to north London, has also emerged as a potential target with Arsenal rumoured to hijack a deal for the German midfielder after he was linked with a return to the Bundesliga and join Borussia Mochengladbach on-loan. Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has also been touted as a possible target with the Brazilian entering the final year of his deal at Villa Park, though the Gunners could face competition from Liverpool who are also in the market for a new midfielder.

Edu is set for a hectic final two days of the transfer window as he looks to satisfy Arteta's demands for more signings before the window closes. A deal to sign a new midfielder is not imminent and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can get one last deal over the line heading into a busy fixture schedule with the start of the Europa League group stage just a week away.
