Edith Bowman and Cat Deeley reminisce about close friendship on new podcast

Edith Bowman has revealed she was platonically "in love" with best pal Cat Deeley back in the day.

The Scots radio star recently started a podcast with Cat, 45, and has been addressing the rumours that they once had a romantic relationship.

The pair have been the best of friends for decades after starting out in showbiz at the same time.

Cat Deeley and I, who are still really good mates, we started MTV at the same time and we'd spent so much time just hanging out and going out," the 48-year-old said of the SM:TV Live host.

In the 1990s, the two presented on Hitlist UK and then went on to travel across the US for the show Roadtripping.

"We came up with the idea [while] watching Thelma and Louise one night with a bottle of wine going, 'Wouldn't it be great to do a show like this?'" Edith said on Angela Scanlon’s Thanks a Million podcast.

"We were really good mates, and we are really good mates still.

"And it was like, 'Oh, Cat and Edith are in a lesbian relationship'."

The rumours began when they were pictured leaving the Met bar in each other's arms after a fun-filled night.

"Photographs of us kind of holding each other up, coming out of the Met bar or whatever was because we were p****d it wasn't because we were like, licking each other's faces off!

"We are in love, but as friends kind of thing, It's so bizarre."

Edith, who shares two sons with husband Tom Smith, went on to say that the photos felt 'intrusive'.

Edith started dating Editors frontman, Tom Smith, in 2005, with the two tying the knot in 2013.

They share two sons together.

Cat found love with comedian and television presenter Patrick Kielty on September 2012 in Rome, Italy. They also share two children.

Edith married her Editors' frontman other half in 2013 after getting together in 2005.

Earlier this month, Cat announced the start of their podcast Friends Will Be Friends.

"The secret's out… We've got a brand new @bbcradio2 podcast @edibow!!" she wrote on social media.

"Each week we'll be chatting to a celebrity and their best mate to find out the stories behind their friendship.

"I'm so excited for you to hear it: listen now on @bbcsounds! Tomorrow we'll be on the breakfast show with @zoetheball."

Edith also shared: "FINALLY we can talk about it. @catdeeley and I have only gone and got ourselves a new show… @bbcradio2 @bbcsounds #friendswillbefriends… Can't wait for you to hear it."

In a statement, the duo revealed: "We are so excited about our new project, Friends Will Be Friends. It's something we came up with that allows us to celebrate our own friendship while exploring the beautiful and unique relationships a friendship can be to us all. Ours has survived time, distance and working together for 20 years. Long may it continue."
