Edison Group acquires the Edinburgh Driveway Company

Construction and property business Edison Group has acquired The Edinburgh Driveway Company.

The 12 year-old Livingston-based business specialises in driveways, paving and landscaping, operating throughout central Scotland and Ayrshire.

The deal secures eight jobs and should create a further five.

Edison founder and chief executive Calum Melville said: “The Edinburgh Driveway Company’s activities fit neatly into our existing range of construction and property offerings and we anticipate the expansion of its operations across the whole of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

“We remain firmly in the market to acquire businesses that are complementary to our group activities and are projecting sales of £20m on a rolling 12-month basis by the end of 2023, driven both by further, already-planned strategic acquisitions and organic growth.

“Edison Group has decades of experience in starting, buying, building and growing businesses, both organically and by acquisition, driving operational and financial excellence and significantly increasing value for all stakeholders, so we believe we have the right ingredients to succeed in a challenging environment.”

In December, the group bought Glasgow-based GDC Design, which is projecting sales of £4m in 2023, providing bespoke manufacturing, interior fit, design and project management to local authorities, central government, hospitality, retail and construction clients.

Melville continued: “We are investing substantial sums to build an infrastructure and platform to drive growth over the next few years with an expanded offering which includes construction, project management, architectural services, bespoke joinery, furniture manufacture, interior design, interior fit out, all trades, driveways, landscaping, property maintenance and refurbishment.”

During 2022, Edison’s residential, commercial, hotel and serviced accommodation divisions added £2.7m of properties to the portfolio, which is projected to grow to 90 properties by the end of 2023.

The group recently invested six figures to take a 50% controlling interest in The Property Solutions Company, which trades in residential and commercial property.
