Edinson Cavani is showing Manchester United what they are missing at Valencia

Manchester United's 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur showed how good the team can be under Erik ten Hag. Many fans agreed it was one of the team's best performances since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 and they are excited about what the future may hold under the Dutchman.

But there is still some room for improvement. United may have solved their problems in midfield to some extent, but they still need a player who can help them control possession; they also need a right back who can effectively rotate with Diogo Dalot.

But the most pressing issue that Ten Hag needs to address is the striker position. Anthony Martial has been consistently injured throughout the season so far and the Dutch manager confirmed in his press conference that the Frenchman would be unavailable against Chelsea.

Cristiano Ronaldo will also be unavailable after he walked out of the stadium during United's fixture against Tottenham. The striker will also be made to train alone as Ten Hag looks to punish the Portuguese forward for breaking the rules.

Therefore Marcus Rashford will be deployed in the number nine position against Chelsea as he has in a number of matches this season. The 24-year-old is United's top scorer this season with five goals and provides the movement and energy that Ten Hag is looking for in his striker, however, his finishing could be improved.

The perfect archetype of a Ten Hag striker is not at the club currently, but the irony is that he was in the past. Edinson Cavani joined United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and had a stellar first season before injuries derailed his second one; when he played though you could clearly see his talent.

Now at Valencia, Cavani is still showing that in terms of movement and interpreting space, he is still one of the best strikers in the world. He also has an eye for goal, scoring three goals in five games so far for the Spanish side.

Cavani will also be hoping to head to the World Cup in November; as a veteran, his experience will be vital for Uruguay's hopes of progressing into the knockout stages.

The only downside for Ten Hag would be his age, at 35 he is not a striker you can build around. But given the struggles that United have this season in the number nine position and the fact they spent a large amount of money in the summer, having Cavani available as a stop-gap this season would been a big plus for the club.
