Edinson Cavani injury update as goal-shy Man Utd prepare for Manchester derby

Edinson Cavani is back in training with Manchester United and is set to return for Sunday's derby showdown.

Cavani has missed United's last five games with a groin strain but has resumed training and is in line to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick said: “He is back in training since yesterday. Today was his second session. He looks good, so I think he could at least be part of the group for Sunday.

“There are two or three question marks behind some players, so we will have to wait and see what happens. Edinson, as it stands now, will be part of the group.”

Rangnick outlined the scale of the task facing United this weekend by hailing Pep Guardiola's side as the best in the world.

"We know that we are playing against one of the best, if not the best, in Europe and the world,” said Rangnick.

“They have developed well since he arrived. The same happened at Bayern too. He is one of the most influential coaches in last 10 to 15 years.

“We know what type of team and style we are facing. It will be about tactical discipline, defending, sprinting, running, waiting for transition and then taking our chances.

“We created enough in our last 10 or 11 games. At times we converted them, like against Leeds, but we should have scored more, especially in the last game against Watford.

“I would be more worried if we didn't create chances. Against the ball, when the other team is in possession, we are compact and we didn't allow them too many chances.”
