Edinburgh Zoo have issued an urgent message to locals after one of their giraffe sculptures was damaged.
Launched at the beginning of July, the Giraffe about Town trail saw a series of uniquely designed animals crop up all over the city centre, with over 40 different sculptures.
Designed to celebrate Edinburgh’s extraordinary heritage and cultural diversity, the trail had already become a popular attraction, with both locals and tourists snapping pictures with the giraffes.

However, this weekend Edinburgh Zoo announced that one of the sculptures has had to be temporarily removed after suffering damage at its Calton Hill location.
Previously standing tall on top of the city centre landmark, organisers shared an image of the giraffe lying on the ground having been completely knocked off of its concrete stand.

In a message, the zoo issued a plea to locals to 'be kind' to the sculptures, with the trail set to continue for another month. They said:
"Stand Tall For Giraffes has been taken off the trail temporarily whilst our statue vets work their magic to repair some damage…
"Gentle reminder to protect, value and love our herd while they’re out on the capital’s streets this summer."
The herd will remain in Edinburgh until Monday, August 29.
