Edinburgh woman, 18, attacked in Princes Street Gardens as police launch manhunt

An Edinburgh teen has been attacked in Princes Street Gardens as police launch a major manhunt.

The 18-year-old woman was assaulted in the park at around 4.30am on Friday June 10.

The incident took place in West Princes Street Gardens close to the Ross Band Stand.

The gardens have since remained closed for police to carry out their investigation. Eyewitnesses reported seeing forensics at the crime scene before 8am on Friday morning.

Photos from the scene show the popular park cordoned off as a police officer stands guard in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30am on Friday, 10 June, 2022, officers received a report of an assault of an 18-year-old woman in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."
