Edinburgh weather: City to be warmer than Madrid as sunshine forecast

Edinburgh is set to enjoy the hottest day of the week on Wednesday as Spring is well and truly here.

The Met Office and BBC Weather both forecast only sunshine and a bit of cloud for the week in Edinburgh.

While today seems mild at around 12C, tomorrow is set to be even warmer - even hotter than Madrid in Spain. You might even be left wondering whether or not to take a jacket.

But as we're in Scotland - it's always best to!

Temperatures are set to hit 14C on Wednesday April 20 and Edinburgh can enjoy bright blue skies right up till around 8.30pm.

There will be some cloud throughout the day but neither Met Office or BBC Weather expect any rain fall.

Meanwhile in Madrid, temperatures will only reach 12 degrees and those in Spain are enduring heavy rain on Tuesday and showers throughout Wednesday while we'll be soaking up some Scottish sun.

Thursday and Friday in Edinburgh are still expected to be bright and sunny with some cloud throughout the. The following week the cloud will be heavier but fear not as the sun will still creep through.

For the long range forecast for the UK for April 23 to May 2, the Met Office reassure that the northeastern areas are likely to stay driest for longest.

They predict: "Mainly dry to start this period, with cloud likely thickening in the far south allowing for some rain here. This rain looking to shift northwards with time, with northeastern and northwestern areas remaining driest for the longest. However, no heavy rainfall is likely, with any showers looking to be light. Generally light winds for most, perhaps breezy in the persistent easterly flow in the south and west, particularly at the start of the period.

"Could see temperatures slightly higher than of recent to start the week, tending to decrease over the subsequent days. Uncertain in timing, but from the following weekend, any rainfall perhaps in more organised bands. Probably turning more settled heading into May."
