Edinburgh weather: City to be hotter than Latvia this week as temperatures soar

Edinburgh is set to enjoy warmer weather by the weekend weekend - with temperatures hotter than Latvia.

While the week ahead looks to be drizzly and cloudy for the city, temperatures will hit 14C by Sunday, May 7.

Whereas, in Riga, Latvia, the highest temperature they will see all weekend will be 12C - with their average in May typically being 20C.

According to BBC Weather, Edinburgh will experience light rain and a gentle breeze for most of this week, with highs of 11C.

However, as the weekend begins, the rain will succumb to the occasional drizzle, with temperatures hitting a high of 14C by Sunday.

Monday, May 8 will bring the first appearance of bright sun for a while, with highs of 12C - as the rain eventually stops by Friday, May 12.

Over in Latvia, temperatures will drop to 7C throughout the coming days, with highs of 12C over the weekend. The city of Riga will even see temperatures plummet to 0C by Friday, May 5.

Their regular temperatures of 20C will return by Friday, May 12 - with rain and winds continuing through the month of May.

Today's forecast

This afternoon will start mainly cloudy with a few showers in places, mainly in eastern areas. Turning brighter in the north later, as cloud sinks south, but the south will become cloudier.

Tonight's forecast

Overnight will see long clear spells in the northern mainland but cloudier skies for central and southern areas. Patchy cloud in the Northern and Western Isles, with the odd isolated shower.

Tomorrow's forecast

A largely dry and settled day tomorrow. Frequent sunny spells for northern areas in the morning but areas of cloud building for most in the afternoon. Turning increasingly bright later in the day.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

Wednesday will see cloudy skies and spells of rain moving in from the west but it will be drier further east. Mostly cloudy and breezy on Thursday, with patchy drizzle in the north-west early on.

Turning drier later but light rain arriving in the south by the evening.

On Friday, heavy showers will push northwards, clearing to late sunny spells in the south. Drier further north.
