Edinburgh weather: BBC and Met Office forecasts when snow will hit

Edinburgh basked in the sun last week and it felt that Spring had arrived, but BBC Weather warns that showers could turn wintry by Wednesday and into Thursday around the UK.

Tuesday night will see the start of the wintry air being pushed through the UK and snow could fall as early as Wednesday March 30.

The Met Office forecast for Tuesday night in Edinburgh and the borders: "It will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, much of this light but turning to snow over the hills overnight. Clearer skies pushing into Edinburgh around dawn. Minimum temperature 1 °C."

A weather front is pushing in from the north and bringing with it cold air. From Wednesday, Edinburgh can expect to wake up to temperatures of just 2C between 7am and 9am, according to the Met Office.

While most of the snow and sleet will fall on the UK on Thursday, according to BBC Weather, the Met Office warn that the Lothians will see the wintry showers from Wednesday and wind pushes the cold air from the north.

They add: "Any rain and hill snow will quickly clear south leaving a bright day with wintry showers, the showers heaviest and most frequent through the Lothians and Borders. Cold northeast winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C."

BBC Weather forecast that on Thursday, the eastern side of the UK can expect sunshine, wintry showers and sleet and hail.

Temperatures will plummet to just 0C on Thursday from 7am, but Met Office warns it will feel like -4C and won't reach above 6C.

Looking at Friday, BBC Weather predict sleet and snow in the Highlands while Edinburgh could have an icy start with temperatures tumbling to a freezing -1C at 7am.

But the Met Office forecasts a crisp morning as sunshine is still expected, despite the freezing start.

For the weekend, wintry showers are forecasted to hit again with a 2C start on Saturday and 3C on Sunday and the Met Office warns there will be widespread fog over night - so take care on the roads.
