Edinburgh weather as temperatures expected to plummet below freezing on Thursday

Temperatures in Edinburgh are expected to plunge below freezing this week according to BBC Weather.

Wednesday will be a relatively mild day in the city, with highs of 10 degrees Celsius forecast across much of the afternoon.

It will be a wet one, however, as "light rain showers" are expected across the entire afternoon and evening — though there may be some brief sunny intervals earlier on.

Around 8pm, temperatures will begin to drop and by midnight the mercury will have plunged to 3C.

Things will remain cold for most of Thursday morning, before beginning to gradually heat up at around 10am.

Overall, it will be another cold one in the capital, with BBC Weather forecasting lows of -2C — adding that "a few wintry showers are likely through the day".

It will be slightly brighter than Wednesday, however, with sunny intervals predicted throughout much of the afternoon and evening, though by 6pm hail showers are expected.

There is expected to be a brief spell of clear skies at around 8pm, after which it looks to be another cloudy and cold night in Edinburgh.

Friday morning and early afternoon will be a considerably brighter affair, with clear skies forecast between 8am and 3pm.

Temperatures will remain cold in the morning — with lows of -1C — but will warm up considerably in the afternoon to highs of 9C.

Two hours of hail showers are expected to commence at 4pm, after which it will be yet another cold and cloudy night in the capital as temperatures once agin approach freezing.
