Freezing temperatures are set to descend on Edinburgh as an Arctic plunge casts over Scotland
Parts of Scotland, including Aberdeen, felt dips to below 0 degrees on the morning of Tuesday January 18 and the cold pockets are reaching over to Edinburgh.
Today, on Wednesday January 19, Edinburgh will feel more mild with temperatures reaching 7°C at the highest but will dip to freezing a 0°C tonight.

As the Daily Record reports, weather forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “As we start off Wednesday because of the larger amount of cloud across the UK less widespread frost and fog but still some pockets in the south and north of that weather front.
“It (the front) does turn things colder as it moves south across the country, a bit of an Arctic plunge but only ever so brief because high pressure will be moving back in for the end of the week.
"Blue on the map is quite wide for the middle part of Wednesday as the weather fronts clear".
According to WXCharts, parts of Scotland, including the central belt could see heavy snow flurries around January 28.
The Met Office also forecast snow for the first half of February between January 31 and Valentines Day on February 14.
The Met Office say: "Into February outbreaks of rain and stronger winds are likely at times across the far north, whereas settled conditions are likely to persist in the south.
"Temperatures are looking to be slightly above average, particularly in the north however some colder interludes remain likely, bringing a risk of occasional snow, most likely over northern hills."
Weather in Edinburgh today
For today, Wednesday January 19, Edinburgh will continue enjoying some winter sun.
The weather forecasters say: "Overnight cloud and rain soon clearing to leave a cold, bright and mainly dry day. The best of the winter sunshine will be through the Lothians and Borders. Feeling cold in the brisk northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 6 °C."
Going into tonight, they warn of frost.
"A cold night to come with clearing skies and an easing northwesterly wind will give a widespread frost by morning. Minimum temperature 0 °C."
Thursday
According to the Met Office, Thursday is looking more overcast but the sun will try to break through.
They say: "Dry with variable amounts of cloud. Often bright with sunny spells and the chilly northwest winds easing. Maximum temperature 5 °C.".
UK weather January 23- February 1
The Met Office warns that heavy rain is forecasted for the north of the UK, including some gales.
The Met Office forecasted: "Through this period, it is likely to be settled, but often cloudy in the south with overnight frost and fog forming under any clear skies and temperatures around or slightly below average. In the north, conditions are expected to be milder and more changeable, with a band of heavier rain in the far northwest later on Sunday and strong winds and gales possible in the far north.
"Through the rest of the period rain or showers at times for the north, with stronger winds mainly restricted to the far north, although possibly bringing unsettled conditions further south at times. Temperatures are likely to be around or slightly above average.
"Conditions are likely to remain similar into the start of February, with drier than average conditions for most".
