Edinburgh Waverley lines closed as emergency services race to incident on the line

Edinburgh train lines are currently blocked as emergency services race to deal with an incident on the line.

ScotRail tweeted that all Edinburgh lines are currently blocked as the emergency services attend to the incident.

All services running through these stations will now be delayed, cancelled, or diverted during the emergency. A spokesperson for the rail company said they are working closely with the emergency services to try and return services to normal.

On their Twitter, ScotRail said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident on the railway between Edinburgh and Haymarket all lines are blocked.

“Our services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed or revised.”

In a follow up tweet, ScotRail revealed that there are currently officers in the tunnel between Edinburgh Haymarket and Waverley and no trains will be able to run through until the line is clear.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We’re working closely with the emergency services to return services to normal as quickly as possible.

"Customers who are delayed by 30 minutes or more are reminded to keep hold of their tickets to claim compensation through our Delay Repay Guarantee.

“We would also take this opportunity to remind people not to trespass anywhere in the rail line as they put themselves and others at risk of serious injury.”

The nature of the emergency is not currently known but British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
