Edinburgh waterfront locked down as police and coastguard rush to ongoing incident

A waterfront area in the north east of Edinburgh has been taped off after residents reported seeing a 'huge' emergency service response on Friday night.

Victoria Quay, Leith, remains locked down following the incident which involved police, the Scottish Fire and Rescue and the coastguard.

One concerned resident reported a 'crew of around 30' people having swooped on the area shortly before midnight on Friday, February 3, with what appears to be investigators on the scene on Saturday morning.

The resident said: "Police, fire, fire water rescue, coast guard in attendance at Victoria Quay. Focus is on the water. At least 30 emergency service crew on site.

"It went 'quiet' from about 02:30 with a guard. As of 08:30, there is a now a larger presence, including what looks like CID."

Worrying images from the scene show emergency services surrounding the water, with the coastguard team deploying a small boat before searching the area.

As of Saturday morning, February 4, a police cordon remains in place in the area and members of the coastguard, as well as officers, remain in attendance.

The nature of the incident is currently unknown. Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
