Edinburgh Transpennine customers face delays to Carlisle due to points failure

Transpennine trains travelling between Edinburgh and Carlisle are currently facing delays or even cancellations, due to a points failure on the railway this morning, March 20.

Following a points failure on the railway, all lines have now reopened - but disruption is expected until approximately 11.45am.

Transpennine Express' customer assist Twitter account posted an update regarding the issue, writing: "Service update: Please be aware that due to a points failure train services between #Carlisle and #Edinburgh may be cancelled or delayed.

"Disruption is expected until 11:45 20/03. Apologies for the inconvenience caused."

The Transpennine Express website has also posted guidance informing customers what to do if they have been affected by this disruption.

The website reads: "Customers are advised to board alternative TransPennine Express, CrossCountry and LNER services from Scotland to Newcastle and York where alternative connections can be made.

"Customers can connect with Northern services at Newcastle to Carlisle where they can board alternative services towards Preston and Manchester.

"Customers travelling to and from Motherwell, Haymarket and Lockerbie are advised to see station staff for further information."

Those whose journeys have been delayed could also be entitled to compensation, and have been advised by the rail service to get in contact via the website, linked here.

The website also added: "For assistance with your journey, you can also follow us on Twitter @TPEassist or you can message us on WhatsApp at 07812 223 336."
