Train passengers have been issued a travel warning ahead of a fresh wave of strikes.
The majority of trains to and from Edinburgh and across the rest of Scotland will come to a standstill as members of Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) will stage a walkout. This will include Network Rail employees who provide essential health and safety roles and without them, train services cannot run.
Passengers have been warned to only travel by rail if necessary on November 5, 7 and 9. This comes after a long running dispute over jobs, pay and conditions.

While ScotRail staff are not associated with these strikes, train services across Scotland will be significantly disrupted due to the lack of Network Rail staff. On the days surrounding the strike action, the train firm also warn that there will be expected delays and cancellations as signal boxes open and close at different times.
ScotRail have released the revised timetable for November 5, 7, and 9, with limited services and only seven leaving Edinburgh Waverley. Customers are also warned that trains will only run from 7.30am until 6.30pm, and are urged to plan ahead.
During previous strike days, ScotRail were only able to have training connecting Edinburgh and Glasgow, now they have extended the services that reach to Cowdenbeath, connecting Edinburgh and Fife, and Tweedbank, to connect the borders. All trains across the Highlands have been cancelled.
The following services are the only trains running on strike days;
- Edinburgh – Glasgow via Falkirk High: two trains per hour
- Edinburgh – Helensburgh: two trains per hour (Saturday timetable)
- Edinburgh – Helensburgh: two trains per hour (Monday and Wednesday timetable)
- Glasgow – Hamilton/Larkhall: two trains per hour
- Glasgow – Lanark: two trains per hour
- Edinburgh – Glasgow via Shotts: one train per hour
- Edinburgh – Cowdenbeath: two trains per hour
- Edinburgh – Tweedbank: two trains per hour
- Edinburgh - Larbert: one train per hour
- Glasgow Queen St – Larbert: one train per hour
- Glasgow Queen St – Falkirk Grahamston: one train per hour
- Milngavie – Springburn: two trains per hour (Saturday timetable)
- Milngavie – Springburn: two trains per hour (Monday and Wednesday timetable)
If you have a ticket for any days affected by the strike action by RMT members of Network Rail (November 5, 7, and 9), you can use the ticket for travel the day before, or up to and including Friday, November 11.
For those who have an Advance ticket, customers are urged to travel as close as possible to the original day and time of travel as possible. Customers can also can request a fee-free change of journey for all tickets types if the train is cancelled or delayed, or rescheduled from that in the published timetable of the day after you have purchased a ticket.
You also can claim a full refund on unused tickets with no administration fee.
Train times for for this strike period will be available in Journey Planner and the ScotRail App in the coming days.
