Edinburgh train lines closed as emergency services race to incident

A number of Edinburgh train services were cancelled or delayed on Tuesday following an emergency incident.

ScotRail advised passengers using the city's Haymarket Station to expect disruption shortly after 11.20am after reports of an incident on the line.

In an announcement, the travel operator stated that emergency services were dealing with an ongoing issue between Haymarket and Polmont stations.

Services between the two stations were temporarily halted, with ScotRail issuing a later update to advise passengers that the line had reopened.

It is currently unclear if there have been any injures as a result of the incident.

In a brief message on social media, ScotRail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Polmont and Haymarket. Services between these stations will be cancelled, delayed or revised."

Police Scotland and the British Transport Police were contacted for comment.
