Edinburgh train disruption continues as ScotRail RMT workers resume strike

A host of trains travelling from Edinburgh through the central belt and beyond will be affected by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) strikes.

The RMT will continue their strikes for "as long as it takes", as they continue to fight for a fair pay deal. The workers were offered a new 7.5 per cent deal, that comprised a £500 uplift on top of the five per cent deal already offered.

However Mick Hogg, the union's Scotland organiser says the offer is still not enough. Speaking to BBC's Good Morning Scotland, Hogg said: "It's not enough. We are actually fighting to defend the living standards and working conditions.

"We want more because the retail price index is 12.6% so the offer that is on the table comes nowhere near acceptable to RMT members."

ScotRail put out a notice to customers on social media, writing: "Travelling today? Most services will run as normal, however, there will be some disruption as a result of an overtime ban by ScotRail RMT union members. All changes to services are shown on our website and app."

And the strike will continue to affect train services today, particularly the Edinburgh to Glasgow main line. The train services affected are as follows:

Cancelled services

  • 14:00 Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street: Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street due 14:47 will be cancelled. This is due to a shortage of train crew.
  • 21:30 Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street: Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street due 22:15 will be cancelled. This is due to a shortage of train crew.
  • 22:30 Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street: Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street due 23:16 will be cancelled. This is due to a shortage of train crew.
  • 12:41 Edinburgh to Aberdeen: Edinburgh to Aberdeen due 15:05 will be cancelled.

This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Services that will shorten train station stops

  • 13:54 Edinburgh to Inverness: Edinburgh to Inverness due 17:25 will be terminated at Perth. It will no longer call at Dunkeld & Birnam, Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore, Kingussie, Aviemore, Carrbridge and Inverness. This is due to a shortage of train crew.

Further strike action will take place on November 5,7 and 9 when Network Rail staff who are RMT members will walk out in the ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.
