Stunned Edinburgh tourists were woken at the crack of dawn as soldiers busily prepared for the King and Queen's arrival in the capital later this week.
It was an early rise for visitors staying on the Royal Mile on Monday morning as rehearsals were in full swing before 5am, with the city gearing up for the King Charles and Queen Camilla to be presented with the Honours of Scotland on Wednesday at St Giles' Cathedral.

Dozens of soldiers can be seen congregating outside the Cathedral as Scotland the Brave is played enthusiastically in a sign of things to come on the day of the ceremony. Horses are also posted outside, with many of them seemingly restless as their riders stay stoic.
One visitor was impressed by how lively Edinburgh was on her first visit to the capital.
She told Edinburgh Live: "Apparently Edinburgh is not for sleeping! We’ve had so much fun though. My family is from Scotland, but this is my first visit, so I’m glad to see and be part of so much culture this weekend!
"We’re staying on St. Giles square, and things are busy here. We woke up to a parade this morning!"
Prince William and Princess Kate are slated to attend the service on Wednesday, with other familiar faces also on the guest list, such as Olympian Katherine Grainger and First Minister Humza Yousaf.
Locals have been told to brace themselves for traffic disruption and congestion as the royal festivities take over, as the early rehearsals are put into practice from early afternoon on Wednesday.
