Edinburgh Tory headquarters spray painted with 'blood on your hands' by vandals

The Scottish Conservative’s central office in Edinburgh was the target of an act of vandalism by a political activist group.

Make The Rich Pay (MTRP) posted a video on their Twitter which showed two members of the group smashing the Scottish Tory headquarter’s windows and spray painting the front door. The incident occurred on Northumberland Street shortly after midnight on Monday October 3.

‘Blood on your hands’ was spray painted onto the blue door in red paint and significant damage was caused to the windows. On Twitter the group shared a post with information on why they carried out the criminal act.

They shared: “In the early hours of this morning, 3 October. 2022, the Scottish Conservative Party Headquarters on Northumberland Street in Edinburgh was targeted. Action was taken against this symbol of the ruling class, and they were reminded that there is ‘blood on their hands’ with slogans left upon the premises.

“This action marked the beginning of the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, and was a response to Douglas Ross’s support for tax cuts in the Conservative ‘mini budget’. These tax cuts will exacerbate economic disparities across Britain; the working class will be forced to pay for the naked greed displayed in this forthcoming budget.

“As taxes decrease for the rich, the Truss government remains ideologically committed to neoliberal economics, and refuses to 'offer hand-outs'. This means families are expected to suffer a winter of fuel and food poverty, to pay for this tax cut.

“The Conservatives are an extension of the ruling class, made up of names, faces and addresses. We will not hesitate to reply to their acts of class war.”

It is understood that the Scottish Conservatives reported the vandalism to Police Scotland. Officers are said to be investigating the issue.

A Scottish Conservative spokesperson said: "An act of vandalism has been reported to the police."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of damage to a property on Northumberland Street, Edinburgh, which is thought to have happened around 12:10am on Monday, 3 October, 2022.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
