Edinburgh to be hotter than Greece this weekend as temperatures warm up

You may want to grab your sunglasses and head to the shops for some BBQ essentials as Edinburgh is set to warm up this weekend.

If you wish you were abroad right now, you'll want to think again - as whilst it's nice to venture to new places - the last thing many of us want is to jet away for the sun, only for it to be hotter back home.

And that's exactly what's going to happen in just a few days.

According to weather forecasters, temperatures in Edinburgh during the weekend are going to peak at 14C with several hours of sun predicted - so much so it's even going to be hotter than Athens in Greece who are set for temperatures of 11C over the weekend with lots of cloud predicted.

On Saturday (March 19), the sunshine is set to stay out from 7am until 6pm with lows of just 5C at 7am. By lunchtime this will turn to 13C and will still remain hot with 12C predicted as late as 7pm.

Temperatures are also set to stay much the same the following day with the sun speaking at 12pm with temperatures around 12C.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Meteorology expert Jim Dale said the UK can expect the hot weather to come "fairly early" this year with temperatures reaching their highest point in the middle of April.

So if March is an indication of what's to come - bring on April!

Weather experts at the Met Office predict 2022 will be among the warmest years on record - though it will be cooler than some fairly recent years. This is due to the impact of La Niña in the tropical Pacific, where sea surface temperatures are below average.

Dr Nick Dunstone, Met Office scientist, said: "Global temperature has been slightly suppressed during 2021 because of the cooling influence of La Niña in the tropical Pacific. With another La Niña now underway, making this a so-called ‘double-dip’ La Niña, it is not surprising that we are forecasting another relatively cool year for global temperatures when compared with the run of years since 2015.

"However, it is still likely that 2022 will be above 1C and hence continue the series of warmest years for global temperature since 1850."

So what does the weather look like for the week ahead?
