Police were made aware of the incident around 12:10am this morning, with the male rushed to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary afterwards.

Locals were left alarmed after seeing cops in the park on Saturday morning, with reports of a police 'tent' being erected.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.10am on Saturday, 30 April, to a report of an assault in the Lochend Park area of Edinburgh.

“An 18-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
