Easter eggs have started to fill shelves in Edinburgh supermarkets with over three months until Easter Sunday - triggering a social media backlash.
Throughout the UK, supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S and Waitrose have launched their Easter confectionery with some appearing on shelves even before the new year.
So we took to the streets of the capital to find branches in the city are also stocking favourite treats in the first week of January.

Many people have shared their opinion about supermarkets in the UK stocking eggs this early with many venting their frustration on social media.
One person online said: “Get a grip Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury’s far too early. Who really buys chocolate so far in advance?! Just another retail gimmick.”
Another person said: “They don’t care about the celebrations of the season, it’s all about the coin and the next campaign.” With another saying, “the way this government is going, the Easter Bunny will be on strike by then. Best to get them now.”
Edinburgh supermarkets including the Sainsbury’s in Gorgie on Westfield Road has started to stock some Easter eggs alongside fan favourites such as; Mini eggs, Cream eggs, Malteser Bunny’s and Smartie Bunny’s.
As well as Sainsbury’s, the Co-op and Lidl both on Dalry Road have stock of Easter eggs and an assortment of chocolate themed for Easter. Aldi on Gorgie Park Road will start to stock Easter eggs “next week.”
Supermarkets have given a similar response to the backlash as they believe that people like to buy Easter eggs in advance and to purchase as gifts to friends and family.
