Edinburgh supermarket opening times for King Charles' coronation including Aldi, Asda and Tesco

As the weekend of King Charles III's coronation draws nearer, people across the UK are being treated to two bank holiday weekends in a row.

Buckingham Palace announced in 2022 that Monday, May 8 would be a bank holiday for the King's special day - meaning we'd have two long weekends.

As the warmer weather is expected this weekend, reported by Edinburgh Live earlier today, people will be setting up outside to enjoy a street party, or a fun BBQ to honour the ceremony.

But, you need supplies to create the perfect event - and supermarkets provide all the food and drink you need to enjoy the weekend.

However, the bank holiday could also mean closures across some supermarkets on days you weren't expecting, as people look to stock up for the long weekend.

Here are the opening times for Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrison, Lidl and more across this weekend.

Aldi opening times

Normal opening hours will remain in place at Aldi’s more than 990 stores on Saturdays and Sundays. Stores will be open until 10pm as usual in Scotland.

However, the opening times of some stores may vary, so customers should check their local store on Aldi’s website.

Asda opening times

Asda stores will be open at normal hours on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, with most remaining open for 24 hours.

However, the supermarket will shorten opening hours from 7am to 8pm on Monday, May 8, according to The Independent.

Lidl opening times

Budget supermarket Lidl is set to be open normally in Scotland during the coronation bank holiday, from 8am until 10pm.

It is worthwhile checking times before you head out, so you don't turn up to the store to find it closed.

Morrisons opening times

On Monday May 8, Morrisons stores will open at their usual time but will close at 8pm, slightly earlier than normal.

Customers should check their local store times on Morrisons’ store finder.

Sainsburys opening times

Sainsbury’s is operating at normal hours for the weekend of the King’s coronation.

Again, opening hours may vary, so it is worthwhile to check your local store before visiting.

Tesco opening times

Most of Tesco’s larger stores will operate at normal hours on May 8, the day of the bank holiday. However, Tesco Express stores may be affected by the bank holiday.

You can check these opening hours, which are typically from 8am until 8pm, on the Tesco Store Finder website.
