Edinburgh streets to be taken over by Scottish independence march on Saturday

A pro-Scottish independence march will take place in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The All Under One Banner group has organised a demonstration from Johnston Terrace through Lawn Market, High Street, Canon Gate and Horse Wynd to the Scottish Parliament at the bottom of the Royal Mile on Saturday from 12.30pm.

All Under One Banner founder Neil Mackay said he hopes to see numbers bounce back this weekend following years of pandemic restrictions.

He said: “All Under One Banner started in 2014 just after the first referendum with a view to stage regular marches for independence and demonstrate until independence is achieved.

“We essentially want independence to be reinstated as soon as possible. The idea of mobilisation is to increase support within Scotland, to mobilise our network, and to have the ability to express a desire for independence.”

According to Mackay, Saturday’s demonstration has secured all of the proper and legal permissions from Edinburgh’s City Council and has been working closely with Police Scotland and other authorities.

Edinburgh City Council said it was notified of the march, and the event was considered by the Licensing Sub-Committee on 5 September. The standard conditions recommended by the Council’s Head of Regulatory Services will apply.
