Edinburgh street locked down as police helicopter hunts for suspects

An Edinburgh street has been locked down after a horror car crash involving a 24-year-old motorcyclist and a car whose driver fled the scene with their passenger. The smash took place on Thursday July 28 and Ferry Road Drive remains closed as police investigate the scene.

A chopper is currently sweeping the area to hunt for the two occupants who fled the scene. The 24-year-old motorcyclist has been rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and remains in a serious condition.

Shocking images show dozens of fire engines, police cars and ambulances at the scene of a car on its side. It is reported that a person was trapped under the side of the car before being rescued by emergency services.

The black vehicle is on the narrow pavement of the suburban street which has now been locked down and taped off by cops in the area.

One local told the Scottish Sun : "It was mental the car was on its side with someone trapped underneath it. There were other people running away from it and then the place flooded with cops.

"The paramedics were here quickly and the two doctors turned up in a car to treat the guy "The police helicopter was overhead and they are still looking for the people who ran away."

A large area remains cordoned off and a car could be seen lying on its side, an ambulance left the scene with a police escort.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.45pm on Thursday, 28 July, to a report of crash involving a car and a motorbike in the Ferry Road Drive area of Edinburgh.

“The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh."

They continued: “The occupants of the vehicle made off. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“Anyone with information, including dash-cam footage that could assist, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1820 of Thursday, 28 July.”
