Edinburgh street locked down after man allegedly seen carrying knife near school

Edinburgh Police raced to the scene this morning after being alerted to a man allegedly carrying a bladed item in a busy residential area.

It is believed that the incident happened today (March 4) at 8.40am in the Bonnington Street area of Leith near Parkside Primary School.

Officers say that a 38-year-old man was arrested shortly after they were alerted to the danger.

Police Scotland have confirmed that no one was injured during the incident and an investigation into what happened is currently taking place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a man in possession of a bladed item in the Bonnington Street area of Leith in Edinburgh around 8.40am on Friday, 4 March.

“Officers attended and a 39-year-old man was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident.

“Nobody was injured and enquiries are ongoing.”
