"Some of tonight's highlights included;

  • 8 referrals from Edinburgh Police Division for a variety of calls, including assaults and intoxication.
  • 3 altercations that started that we reported swiftly to The City of Edinburgh Council CCTV to prevent escalation.
  • 7 people that required first aid for head injuries and 1 for a facial injury.
  • 4 people taken directly to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to save calling the Scottish Ambulance Service.
  • A female suffering from a mental health episode taken to hospital for an assessment.

"Our team were also one of the first people on scene at a road traffic collision, where a car had struck an island. Police Scotland contacted immediately to attend.

"Another key callout was us receiving 6 calls for assistance in the space of 10 minutes and being able to resource them all.

"We continue to be adaptable and assist as many people as possible. We'll be back out next week."

The Street Assist Edinburgh team told Edinburgh Live that: "The partnership working between Street Assist and Police is needed, as we support each other.

"Our interventions free up so much police time, resources and ultimately a huge cost benefit to the public purse."

The most apparent reasoning for the busy night in the capital would be Scotland's Calcutta Cup win over bitter rivals England, to retain the title with wins and not draws, for the first time consecutively since 1984.

Edinburgh Live reported that jubilant Edinburgh crowds took over the town on Saturday night as they celebrated Scotland's rugby win over England - taking home the Calcutta Cup.

In the nail-biting performance Scots just came ahead finishing on 20 to 17 winning the match against their rivals. Despite the wet and blustery day in Edinburgh, conditions subsided slightly by the time kick-off arrived.

The Three Sisters was absolutely buzzing with fans celebrating the heroic win, dozens of revellers were seen outside the popular boozer standing in crowds and singing in joyful spirits despite the rainy weather.

Scots along with Irish fans could be heard across the Old Town chanting 'Scotland' as they headed to the pubs which was a welcome boost for the hospitality sector after a tough couple of months.
