Edinburgh snap from the ‘60s shows mystery exhibition that’s got locals stumped

A throwback image shared by an Edinburgh group has got locals stumped.

Posted by The Living Memory Association (TheLMA) the snap shows part of an exhibition in the capital from 1963. They say a number of other stalls were on display, but it's unclear exactly what was going on.

In the exhibit, we see items from the Red Cross and dolls dressed up. A poster featured reads: “Red Cross Society Centenary Year.

“The objective for the centenary is a holiday home for elderly disabled and further accommodation and training for young disabled. Help us to help others by sending a donation to 62 Great King Street.”

Posting the image, TheLMA wrote: “Today's picture is from c.1963, another of the glass plate images which we have been digitising.

“The photographer seems to have been covering an exhibition of some sort in Edinburgh, as there are a number of photos of 'stalls' put together by various retailers and organisations. Any ideas what might have been going on?”

The Living Memory Association displays various images and items at The Wee Museum of Memory in Ocean Terminal. They’re open to the public everyday, from 10.30am until 4pm during the week and 11am until 4pm on the weekends.

They also run free ‘reminiscence groups’ twice a week, once on Thursdays at 11am and Tuesdays at 1pm - which are also completely open to the public. You can find out more about the meetings, and TheLMA, here.

Get in touch if you know what’s happening in the throwback snap.
