An existing Poundland store within an Edinburgh shopping centre could be set to double in size after plans have been lodged to buy the empty unit next door.
Poundland at Newkirkgate, Leith, are behind the plans to take over the former Bright House shop next door and an application with internal and external blueprints have now been validated by the council.
If granted, the store would nearly double in size and occupy the unit at 3-4 Newkirkgate. The news comes in recent light of a host of changes at the shopping area, with the busy Farmfoods store also closing at the end of 2022.

Lidl also recently closed for several months due to a refurbishment and the closure of rent-to-own electrical goods store BrightHouse added to the upheaval.
Previous tenants of the retail unit, BrightHouse, were once the biggest rent-to-own company in the UK with over 200 stores. In 2020, the company entered administration and collapsed due to the number of compensation claims from customers who could not afford to pay back their loans on items.
Other retailers within the Newkirkgate shopping centre include Card Factory, Greggs, Boots and Pound stretcher.
