Edinburgh set to be battered by hours of thunderstorms and downpours

Edinburgh is set to be battered by hours of thunderstorms this afternoon, Sunday June 25, as the capital looks ahead to a week of downpours.

Residents have been enjoying some unusually hot weather with the city feeling more like a Spanish holiday destination than your typical Edinburgh.

But heavy downpours are expected to rain down on the capital through this afternoon with thunderstorms beginning at 2pm and lasting until 4pm, according to BBC weather.

The MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the east coast of Scotland with households, businesses and travellers warned of the dangers of flooding and disruption.

The rain is due to start slightly earlier in the afternoon at around 1pm and it is expected to continue right through until 6pm.

The rain is a sign of what is to come at the end of June with most of next week seeing wet and humid days.

Monday June 26 will remain mostly dry with overcast skies with temperatures peaking at around 18 degrees at 4pm in the afternoon.

The wet week gets into full swing however on Tuesday with temperatures again rising to 18 degrees but with rain lasting all day from 6am right through until midnight.

Wednesday morning will begin with light showers before a dry spell rolls into the capital at around 2pm right through until midnight.

Thursday will also begin dry but with overcast skies however the rain is expected to return at around 5pm until 8pm.

Friday will also start off with overcast dry spells but will once more be impacted by showers in the early afternoon from 2-5pm.

Saturday is unfortunately inundated with showers from the early morning at 6am right up until 7pm in the evening.

But the weekend will not be a complete washout as Sunday is set to remain dry from the early hours of the morning until 9pm at night when showers are expected to return.
