Edinburgh ScotRail train passenger spots water trickling from carriage ceiling

Edinburgh ScotRail passengers were left bemused after one of the carriages on a popular commuter run sprung a leak and left water trickling through the roof.

One of the passengers onboard, Lindsay McCurley, was travelling from Waverley Station to Glasgow on Thursday morning, September 22, when she noticed the rare fault onboard and shared concerns over health and safety.

A video captured by Lindsay shows water dripping onto the carriage floor from a hole in the roof as heavy rain continued in Edinburgh throughout the morning.

Another passenger seems unfazed by the issue as they can be seen sitting looking at their phone as the water leaks just inches away from their seat.

A more worrying situation arose in 2019, with passengers on an Edinburgh-bound LNER service were forced to stand in the gangway due to overcrowding issues, then multiple holes in the roof led to customers getting soaked with water.

ScotRail apologised to those onboard at the time and said the fault has been reported to their maintenance team to repair.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We are sorry to our customers who travelled on this service and for the inconvenience it caused.

“As soon as we were made aware of the fault, it was reported to our maintenance team to repair.”
