Edinburgh Scotrail delays as person struck by a train between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy

Scots can expect delays tonight on the Edinburgh to Fife line as a person has tragically been struck by a train.

Scotrail announced that the person has been struck between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy. The line has been closed between these stations in both directions.

The rail operator say they are working closely with Network Rail and the emergency services. Trains to and from Fife will be diverted via Cowdenbeath where possible.

Edinburgh commuters travelling towards Fife can expect delays until at least 9.30pm tonight, according to the website.

Scotrail said in a statement: "Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy. The line has been closed between these stations in both directions.

"We're working closely with @NetworkRailScot and the emergency services. Services to/from Fife will be diverted via Cowdenbeath where possible.

"You can use ScotRail tickets and Smartcards on Stagecoach East buses between Dundee - Fife and in the Fife area. We don't have ticket acceptance between Inverkeithing and Edinburgh I'm afraid."

Edinburgh Live have contacted the British Transport Police for comment.
