Edinburgh's white Christmas odds and when it will snow in the capital this year

Believe it or not, the festive season is just around the corner. And many will be dreaming of white Christmas this year.

The weather has certainly taken a turn for the wintry already, with temperatures taking a dip across Edinburgh this week with icy windscreens now a normal part of the morning. But never mind the frost and the rain, snow is what we are after, right?

So, when is the capital likely to see flurries of the white stuff this year? Here is what the forecasters reckon and the chances of a white Christmas across Edinburgh this December 25.

When will it snow in Edinburgh this winter?

According to WX Charts, Edinburgh and the surrounding areas could see some snowfall in the first few days of December. Flurries are expected in the early hours of Sunday, December 4 continuing until the afternoon of Monday, December 5. More snow showers are then expected in the early hours of Tuesday, December 6, with things drying up as we reach the afternoon.

The areas shaded in purple indicate the areas forecast for snow. However, the flurries are expected to be light with just 1-5cm falling throughout.

Will Edinburgh have a white Christmas this year?

It is good news for snow and Christmas lovers, with Edinburgh being named amongst the cities most likely to enjoy a white Christmas this year.

The Scottish capital is currently 3/1 to see the white stuff on December 25, according to Gambling.com. The site has just launched its White Christmas 2022 page, with Glasgow also appearing at the top of the list.

The page will be regularly updated as weather patterns change in the run-up to Christmas.
