When you think fast food, the usual names spring to mind. McDonald's, Burger King, KFC - the global brands with restaurants on seemingly every street corner throughout the world.
And while there's always a time and a place for a Big Mac, Whopper or Bargain Bucket, it's important to big up the independently owned food spots that are every bit as good - and often so much better.
So when we looked for Edinburgh's best 'fast food' eatery on TripAdvisor, we were heartened not to be greeted by Colonel Sanders or Ronald McDonald.

Instead, feedback left on the popular travel review website ranks a Canongate roll shop as the best grab and go food spot in the capital.
Oink Delicious Hog Roast Rolls has been inundated with rave reviews, with many customers hailing it as a 'must try' lunch destination.
Out of 209 votes on TripAdvisor, 191 people have given Oink four or five stars - pretty impressive considering the occasional inconsistencies you can get when it comes to fast food.
Somewhat of a city institution, Berwickshire farmers Adam Marshall and Sandy Pate first brought their delicious hog roasts to Edinburgh's Farmers Market way back in 2001.
Explaining their success story, they say: "Our delicious hog roast rolls (pulled pork as some people know it) were such a runaway success with the public, that we decided to open our first shop in Edinburgh – and that’s when Oink was born."
Alongside the 82 Canongate address, they also have shops on Hanover and Victoria Street too, serving hog roast rolls with the likes of haggis and chilli jam, sage and onion stuffing with apple sauce or topped with the much-loved homemade BBQ sauce.
Why is Oink so popular? Put simply, it all comes down to the 'scrumptious' taste.
One recent review reads: "The perfect pulled pork roast roll! The traditional sage and onion and apple sauce is hard to beat, but if your feeling adventurous then go for the haggis and chilli cheese!"
Another diner found their food to be 'actually effing amazing' and said: "I love a hog roast and this one was one of the best I’ve had in a very long time.
"Perfectly paired with crackling and stuffing and your choice of sauce in some beautiful."
That review was echoed by a fellow customer, who commented: "It's fair to say this is the BEST Pulled Pork I've ever had. It was soft, juicy, and full of flavour.
"The staff were extremely friendly and the menu has plenty of choice, including Haggis Stuffing!".
Of course, the mouthwatering scran clearly appeals to tourists and locals alike.
One visitor said: "Quite honestly as a guy born in raised in Philly I know sandwiches. And have had some really great ones all over the states and wider world. But this sandwich ROCKED!
"A tremendous sandwich that can't be missed when in Scotland!"
And one person summed up exactly why people should choose independent eateries over big name brands by saying: "Mouthwatering pork with a good selection of additional extras (haggis for example). The pork scratching was crisp and cooked perfectly.
"Much better than a Maccies or BK!!!!"
Located a mere stone's throw away from the Scottish Parliament, it's no doubt a regular visit spot for politicians too!
