Edinburgh's Ncuti Gatwa shares snap as Ken ahead of Barbie movie

Edinburgh actor Ncuti Gatwa has shared a promotional snap as Ken ahead of the Barbie movie hitting cinemas later this year.

The Scottish-Rwandan actor, who is best known for his role as Eric Effiong in Sex Education, will be hitting the big screen alongside Hollywood stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Ncuti, 30, who will also take on the role of the 15th Doctor in the BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who, will join the star-studded cast and play a version of the iconic doll Ken in the flick report the Record.

Sharing the promotional snap, Ncuti can be seen sporting a red cowboy hat while holding a guitar as the poster reads 'Ken again!'. Sharing the snap with fans, he wrote: "Wanna go for a ride?….. Well you’ll have to wait until July 21st but it’ll be thee most fun you’ve had. Promise. Love Ken."

Ncuti isn't the only Scots star cast in the blockbuster, as Two Doors Down star Sharon Rooney will also be playing a Barbie doll in the flick. Sharon, 33, shared her poster for the film on Instagram as she sported a retro full fringe and purple suit.

The poster read: "This Barbie is a lawyer."

Speaking of her role in the upcoming movie, Sharon told Go Radio: "I've just finished Barbie! I've spent so long keeping it a secret that I feel like I'm not allowed to say that but I am allowed to say that!

She added: "I still feel like someone's going to jump out my wardrobe and give me into trouble for saying it! But yeah, I've just wrapped on that last week but I've got a couple of weeks off before I go into my next thing which I'm not allowed to talk about!"

Sharon shared the exciting news that she was involved with the Barbie production on her Instagram back in April 2022 as she posed in an all pink outfit. She wrote: "Come on Barbie let’s go party. SWIPE FOR SOME NEWS. Don’t let me ever hear you say dreams don’t come true because they do!

"So buy that hot pink power suit and go for your dreams because magic things happen when you believe in YOU! Barbie, the best adventure yet."

While much of the plot for Greta Gerwig's Barbie blockbuster has been kept under wraps, the film synopsis reads: "After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness."
