Edinburgh's four best places for a weekend brunch according to TripAdvisor

The weekend is a valid reason for staying in bed for just a little while longer, so it's good that many places offer late brunches or breakfast all-day for every late bird to appreciate.

We took to the world's most popular travelling platform TripAdvisor to see what people think are the best places for a late breakfast in Edinburgh. Here're the top four venues.

Quinn's Cafe

Called by one TripAdvisor user a "backstreet little gem," this cafe might be easy to pass by, but it was actually ranked number one restaurant - out of 1,773 diners - in the whole of Edinburgh, making it a true must-visit.

With consistently outstanding reviews, the place is praised by visitors for its food, service and value for money. Quinn's Cafe serves Scottish dishes and offers breakfast all day long, making it a brilliant weekend destination no matter how late in the day you're taking the morning meal.

Sharing on TripAdvisor his review of the place, Alex said: "Mike Quinn is a very hard working and incredibly friendly host. His hospitality really was making a difference as the place might not be as "fancy" as some of the chain cafes. For me, however, it is what I dig on trips - direct contact with locals. You don't get that in a Starbucks!

"The breakfast was fabulous, and the coffee is great. I absolutely recommend this place! Thanks again, Mike, for being a nice, friendly and good human!"

Salt Café

A proud holder of the Travellers' Choice Best of the Best award, Salt Cafe "makes brunches interesting" and attracts crowds of hungry locals and visitors alike, with some even choosing the spot for a special birthday treat.

Mary took to TripAdvisor to share her thought on a special occasion brunch she had at the cafe. She said: "I've been dreaming of having my birthday brunch at Salt since my first visit in September, and it did not disappoint.

"The quality of ingredients and masterful execution really make the food an amazing experience. Plus, the service is always lovely. Highly recommend it; I will be back for sure!"

Many TripAdvisor users admit to coming back to Salt Cafe time and time again and praise the venue for changing the menu according to season so that there's always something new they can try.

French Creperie Le Petit Cafe

Do you need a break from your traditional Scottish breakfast? Then this little cafe with an authentic French charm is the right choice for you. Run by a young French couple who once fell in love with Edinburgh, Le Petit Cafe is a perfect spot for a lighter and more chic late-morning treat.

The cafe offers a variety of crepes - sweet and savoury - and traditional French bakery, as well as an impressive list of drinks to go alongside it. Each month, there is a new pair of crepes on offer, and every holiday - a burst of new flavours.

What can be better proof of the authenticity of the place than having true French visitors returning over and over again for a taste of homeland? On TripAdvisor, Alain said: "I am a French guy living in Edinburgh, and I tend to go there each time I need my French fix.

"Décor is elegant, warm welcome, service spot on, and the crepes are delicious. My favourite is the Parisien that I order with freshly squeezed orange juice and French Fries topped with Raclette.

"Marion and Mathias and their team are putting so much love into their creperie that you can only feel the good energy of the place. To top up on scoring points: the creperie is dog-friendly, so all furry friends have their own treat-tray!"

Tani Modi

Praised by the visitors for its atmosphere, this cafe is located in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town and will make a perfect brunch stop for anyone set for a busy day in the centre of the vibrant capital.

However, despite its central location, Tani Modi offers outstanding value for money, which many visitors appreciate. When planning your visit - which you really should - keep pancakes in mind, as reviewers are hailing them.

Benedict, who visited the place for a good quality brunch, said on TripAdvisor: "The fluffiest, most delicious pancakes are served here and are enough to make me come back here next time I'm in the city, even without the down-to-earth friendliness and charm of the staff.

"I love that without even asking, they bring a big bottle of water to the table and then give you a couple of mins to mull on their impossible selection of goodies before coming back.

"Value for money is truly amazing for the location, too - I paid less than a tenner for brunch and spent a very relaxed 45 mins on my day off enjoying it."
