Edinburgh's cheapest filling station fuel prices uncovered amid record-high inflation

With fuel prices reaching an all-time high according to recent data, we explored where the cheapest place in Edinburgh to fill your car up currently are.

According to AA, prices in the UK have recently risen to an all-time high, tightening the squeeze on UK consumers.

Over the weekend, petrol reached 148.02p a litre, while diesel hit a new record high of 151.57p a litre last Thursday.

During last November, fuel prices previously hit a new record, before wholesale and retail prices fell back.

With that being said, where is the cheapest place within Edinburgh at the moment to get the best bang for your buck?

Most of the UK's major supermarkets, including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's seem to be the cheapest on the list, compared to fuel garages such as Esso and Shell, although, there's not a great deal in it.

All of the prices listed are from petrolprices.com for the month of February, most of which were updated in the last week alone.

Focusing on Edinburgh only, Asda's fuel garage in their Chesser superstore is currently the cheapest price for petrol in the city, with a price of 141.7p per litre.

Second on the list, is Sainsbury's Longstone branch, coming in with a price of 143.9p per litre.

Tesco's chance to chip in comes with both their Colinton and Corstorphine branches offering the same price of 143.9p per litre.

As you can see, there's not too much in it. But, if you're filling up a full tank, it may be worth using the cheapest pump available, as every penny counts these days.

Morrison's are offering a price of 144.7 in their Ferry Road store, the same price as their branches at The Gyle and Granton.

Scrolling down the list, the first non-supermarket destination for petrol is Gulf. Their pump in Liberton currently sits at 145.8p per litre.

Esso and Shell's nearest comparison to Gulf is two pence more and six pence more than the cheapest, Asda.

In terms of the most expensive, BP and Shell are at the top of that particular chart. Both have prices of 151.9p per litre, including BP's Ratcliffe Terrace location and Shell's Musselburgh garage on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

For diesel, the price difference compared to petrol is not as huge as it used to be. Most of the prices remain within a few pence of the petrol comparison, with the order of cheapest remaining the same.

Asda's Chesser Superstore is still on top, offering a price of 142.7p per litre.

Sainsbury's Longstone, Tesco Colinton and Tesco Corstorphine remain 2nd, 3rd and 4th cheapest, all offering prices of 144.9p per litre.

Several Morrison's stores have set prices of 145.7p and looking further down the list, the nearest non-supermarket fuel garage for diesel is currently 149.9p per litre.

From the available data showing the most expensive diesel prices in Edinburgh, Shell and BP again are offering the highest rate per litre, with Shell's Dreghorn Junction and BP's Ratcliffe Terrace garages both coming in with a price of 155.9p.
