The rooms of Lauriston Castle will once again be filled with sounds of life as the 400-year-old castle is re-opened to the public for the first time since Covid-19 restrictions came into effect.
Edinburgh City Council announced plans to re-open Lauriston Castle ahead of the summer sun and holidays. On Saturday June 25, the regular castle tour will resume alongside a weekend of fun and activities.
“It’s fantastic that Lauriston Castle will be fully open to visitors from next weekend. With the summer holidays almost upon us, many families might be wondering how best to fill their hopefully sunny days,” said Councillor Val Walker, Culture and Communities Convener.

“To mark the reopening a special programme of events promises fun for all the family and a great opportunity to explore the 400-year-old Castle and it’s beautiful grounds. This is the first of many fun weekends I’m sure will be held and I would encourage everyone to visit this incredible castle by the sea.”
Costumed volunteers will be on hand throughout the opening weekend to entertain visitors with stories from the past, and there will be family art and storytelling activities in the gardens.
Alongside the regular Edwardian themed tours, the Lauriston Castle team will also host a new family castle tour for the summer.
The castle exhibits will take visitors back in time to experience what life was like in an Edinburgh middle-class home at the beginning of the 20th century.
In addition to guided tours, visitors will enjoy views across the Firth of Forth. There is also a woodland walk and an award-winning Japanese garden to explore.
The castle ground and Mimi’s Café have been open to the public again for some time. However, visitors will once again be able to experience the Edwardian themed tour and view the indoor exhibitions.
Castle tours are available Tuesday through Sunday from 25 June through the end of October. Tickets are £8 or £6 for concessions. The grounds are open between 8am-7.30pm each day. Parking onsite is limited. More information is available on the Lauriston Castle website.
