Edinburgh three vehicle crash leads to road closure as motorist taken to hospital

One person has been taken to hospital following a three vehicle crash on a busy Edinburgh road.

The incident took place on Duddingston Road West at around 7.50am on Thursday March 16 and it is understood that a driver was taken to hospital for treatment on their injuries.

Police Scotland have said that the road had to be closed after a crash involving three vehicles took place outside of the Holyrood Business Park.

Local resident, Esme Is-Me, says that she was awoken by a loud smashing noise and rushed to her window to see what had happened and noticed that it looked as though a silver car and a white council bus had collided.

Esme states that the same road saw another incident in the recent past when a car went into a wall opposite her home.

She adds that the road is supposed to be a 20mph zone but that often drivers ignore this and travel faster than they should.

On the incident, she said: “I just woke up to a loud noise but it came not long after someone drove into a wall at that bit of the road.

“That's still to be fixed, it's meant to be a 20mph road but nobody sticks to it.”

In the image shared by Esme, police can be seen blocking either side of the road whilst the debris of the crash is cleared up.

The silver car suspected to be involved in the crash is on site as a tow truck looks to be getting into place to remove it.

A white bus that was said to have been involved in the collision can already be seen on the back of a truck being removed from the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.50am on Thursday, 16 March, 2023 we received a report of a crash involving a number three vehicles and a bus on Duddingston Road West in Edinburgh.

"One person was taken to hospital. The road has now re-opened."
