Edinburgh has been ranked as one of the best nights out in Britain as the average price of a pint was revealed in a study conducted by Get Licensed.
The new research shows Edinburgh in fourth on the list of ‘the best night out in Britain’, beating Aberdeen in 10, Dundee in 22 and Glasgow lagging behind at 29.
Edinburgh was beaten by York, Telford and Warrington in the table but did come out as the top city or town for a night out in Scotland.
On the process for determining the best night out, Get Licensed say that they use data that includes the number of drinking venues per head, the cost of a pint, and a range of different safety concerns, to decide the best “Overall Night Out Score.”
However, those conducting the research must have last visited Edinburgh ten years ago, as they claim that the average price of a pint is £3.78.
Anyone living in Edinburgh knows that you would be hard pressed to get a pint for under £4 outside of the suburbs.
The most expensive pint in Britain is unsurprisingly London with a price of £4.97 - which is again well below what many would expect to pay when out in England’s capital.
The cheapest pint was to be found at £2.60 in Telford.
Aberdeen surprisingly came out as the cheapest pint out of the Scottish locations that made the list with the average price of a pint coming in at £2.84.
Dundee is in second at £3.31 and Glasgow is tied with Edinburgh at £3.78, which is definitely not correct.
The capital was also found to be one of the safest places to enjoy a night out with friends across Britain.
Explaining how the research was undertaken, Get Licensed say: "We wanted to find out which UK towns and cities are the best places for a good night out. We considered a range of factors including the number of venues per head, the cost of a pint, and a range of safety issues.
"The data we used for the number of bars and clubs was taken from Tripadvisor, while the number of pubs close to each location was taken from CAMRA’s whatpub.com. We then compared this data to the populations of each town and city using data from The Geographist.
"Additionally, we sourced the price of a pint from Numbeo. This figure was given as a price per 500ml, which we used to calculate what a pint measure would cost in proportion. We also used Numbeo’s safety data to track a range of safety-related factors for each town and city.
"We combined all of these factors into a single overall score, where each was given equal weighting. We also created separate scores for each town and city-based purely on drinking factors and safety factors."
