Edinburgh restaurant starstruck after Whoopi Goldberg spotted dining out in capital

An Edinburgh restaurant has been left a little starstruck from the weekend after receiving a visit from none other than Whoopi Goldberg.

Staff at the Cafe Royal on West Register Street had been offering their usual Sunday service (April 10) when the American actress paid them a visit.

Smiling alongside the 66-year-old, the team managed to get a quick snap with Whoopi, who seemed more than happy to oblige.

Taking to social media, the restaurant said: "The lovely Whoopi Goldberg paid us a visit today!"

A number of Edinburgh customers were quick to comment on the post, with many stunned to see the Sister Act and Ghost star in the capital.

One local replied: "Oh wow! Fantastic!"

Another couple who had been dining in the oyster restaurant at the time on Sunday also replied with a picture they managed to get with Whoopi at their table, writing: "Fabulous day in our favourite wee bar!"

Although spotted in Cafe Royal, it is currently unclear if the Hollywood star is in Edinburgh for work or a holiday, with her social media remaining very quiet.

If you've spotted Whoopi somewhere else in Edinburgh then we'd love to see your pictures - you can get in touch on twitter, Facebook or at news@edinburghlive.co.uk.
