Edinburgh restaurant gives poignant update after BBC's Top Takeaway appearance

Edinburgh's Sabzi have said that they are "gutted" after Tuesday's episode (May 10) of BBC Two's Britain's Top Takeaway saw them miss out on the top spot.

The much loved family run restaurant in Edinburgh created some great meals as they incorporated traditional Indian dishes with classic Scots dishes giving it a unique twist.

However it wasn't meant to be for the eatery representing Scotland with the mum and son duo, who hoped to come first place, ended up finishing in fourth with a total score of 19 points.

Taking to Instagram, the owners said it wasn't about the winning but taking part however they have learnt a lot and will "keep moving forward."

They wrote: "We’re a little gutted we didn’t do better but we tried to showcase another perspective on Indian food, food you normally don’t see a lot of in Indian Punjabi restaurants. So that alone, was a small win for us.

"However, we’re just super proud of ourselves as a family to have even turned an idea into real working thing during the pandemic, never mind filming for the BBC within six months of launching Sabz! Fast forward a year, we’re very much into our groove.

"We’ve learned so much about ourselves as a family and this amazing industry. We’ll never stop learning, the beauty in it all is the journey. The highs, the lows, unforgettable moments as well as the tough times. Regardless of this, we keep moving forward.

"It’s been a dream for us to become a part of Edinburgh’s food scene and let you guys into our world through food. We bring something different to a competitive market with Mums home cooking and our weekly menu change. It gives us an opportunity to stand out from the crowd, and we absolutely love that.

"All in all, an incredible experience was had. As mother and son, having the opportunity to cook together was an incredible high and a memory that won’t be forgotten about anytime soon.

"A huge thank you to all of our customers for your continued support, you’ve all been amazing and we’re so grateful. We’re super excited to see what the the future holds for our little family restaurant and you’re all welcome on the ride."

Taking to the comments to support the duo one said: "Massive well done!!! You both smashed it regardless. Your food looked amazing, I’m dying to try it."

Another added: "Well done guys. Can't wait to pop in this weekend again."

A third said: "You're still winners back home in Edinburgh."
