Edinburgh restaurant apologises as customer 'trips over animals' during visit

An Edinburgh restaurant has apologised after a customer was left unimpressed when they visited for lunch.

Loudons in Fountainbridge is beloved by locals and visitors, even bagging itself a 'travellers choice' award 2022 by Tripadvisor. Serving a range of dishes for breakfast, brunch and lunch, it has earned itself a respectable four and a half stars on the review website.

It prides itself that it caters for vegetarians, vegan and pet lovers as welcomes four legged friends into the cafe. However, one customer was left fuming after they claimed they were 'tripping over dogs' during their visit.

The manager quickly responded and explained that their dogs policy is one reason as to why they are popular, but insisted that arrangements can be made and would do best to accommodate anyone who wouldn't be comfortable sitting near a dog.

In a review on Tripadvisor the disgruntled customer said: "We were looking forward to visiting as it had come highly recommended. It was very busy as you would expect but we knew it would be and were prepared to wait. What we didn't know was that we would be tripping over dogs in the building.

"Not everyone loves dogs like their owners and I felt it was inappropriate for them to be there in a very crowded place. One of the staff proudly announced they were child and dog friendly! Are children and dogs placed on the same level? Children are a lovely part of our lives, dogs not. Sadly we will not be returning for that very reason."

To which Loudons replied: "Many thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback on your visit. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit, we allow dogs in the restaurant in order to cater to as many of our guests as possible and find that it's a popular option.

"If you do choose to book with us in the future, please feel free to leave a note that your preference would be away from any dogs and we will do our best to accommodate you."

Loudons is clearly a popular choice for people in the area with another customer writing: "We booked Loudons for brunch and it more than delivered.

Despite being very busy, we were seated and served with drinks quickly and our order taken. The food was delicious and it has a great atmosphere. It really set us up for a good day. We will definitely be back."

A second added: "Great choice of breakfast from full plates for the boys and French toast and pancakes oh and bloody Mary’s and super friendly staff and dog friendly! Thank you."
