A customer who hoped to enjoy an afternoon tea at a city centre restaurant has branded their experience ‘awful’, claiming the offerings were ‘sparse and incomplete’.
The guest said their visit was also accompanied by ‘uninterested and arrogant’ staff, leaving just one star in their TripAdvisor review. After their dining experience at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse on North Bridge, they were quick to bash the restaurant online.
They stated: “If I could give zero stars I would. We arrived for afternoon tea, shown to our table - all good.

“We were presented with the menu, which advertises sandwich selection, scone selection and teas. What arrived was awful, the sandwiches were soggy, the fillings were so sparse and incomplete, with smoked salmon replaced with hard cheese.
“The scones were supposed to be fruit, but only plain served - the jam was meant to be homemade but came in a ‘Bon Maman’ jar, the cakes were old. No check back was made, so spoke to the first restaurant supervisor who was uninterested and arrogant.
“I hope Marco Pierre White reads the reviews. What a disgrace, customer service is non-existent.”
Responding to the complaint, a manager from the restaurant said: “We have raised your concerns to the chef and he is very sorry that on this occasion we were not able to offer the high standards that we pride to offer to our valued guests.
“Our supervisor also apologises if he came through as arrogant, that was certainly not his intentions. He was just trying to explain to you that we will conduct an investigation on what went wrong so that it will not happen in the future.
“He is very sorry and understands your frustrations. We hope that this faux pas will not prevent you from visiting us again.”
The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse has an average rating of 3.5 on TripAdvisor, with 97 reviews claiming the restaurant is ‘excellent’. 32 reviews have branded the establishment ‘terrible’.
Another review of the restaurant's afternoon tea gave the experience five stars. The glistening review stated: “We booked afternoon tea here through a deal for 12 people, and we were all thrilled with the experience.
“Between booking and going I made the decision to go vegan, and was worried that I wouldn’t be able to eat anything - they came through with flying colours. I would highly recommend it.
