Edinburgh residents warned as Netflix show One Day to begin filming with late night shoots

New Netflix drama One Day will be heading to Edinburgh for some late-night filming. Local residents have been warned that the shoot could cause noise and traffic disruption.

The romantic drama, One Day, is based on the best-selling novel by David Nicholls, and is set over a 20-year period, with filming locations including our lovely wee city. This book has also been adapted into a film, starring the one and only Anne Hathaway, and follows main characters Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew catching up the same day each year, after they first meet at university in 1988 and watching how they grow and change, move together and apart, experience joy and heartbreak.

In the letter, assistant location manager Aaron has said: "The reason for this letter is to make you aware that we are in pre-production but looking to begin filming at the Old College, Edinburgh University on Monday July 18 till Wednesday July 20 2022 between the hours of 18:00-04:00."

Bosses have also confirmed that the scenes require playback music, and they are in contact with Environmental Health at Edinburgh City Council in order to discuss the levels at which the music can be played at these times of day.

This will mean that the streets affected will include:

  • Chambers Street
  • Infirmary Street
  • South Bridge
  • Nicolson Street
  • Drummond Street
  • South College Street, and
  • West College Street

Assistant location manager Aaron has also urged locals to get in contact with himself via email or phone to discuss their feedback on the news, and if they have any questions or queries regarding the show.

The book has been already adapted into a feature film in 2011 starring Anne Hathaway. It was released by Universal Pictures and scored $59 million at the box office on a budget of just $15 million.

Netflix’s hasn’t announced a release date for One Day, but fans can probably expect it to drop on Netflix one day in 2023.
