Hundreds of reports of a 'fireball' were made on Wednesday night after a huge white orb was seen racing through the sky over Edinburgh.
Many residents quickly took to social media to share their images of the unusual occurrence, as it was vividly caught on camera at around 10pm.
Seen heading through the clouds to the west of the city, the suspected meteorite was also spotted by those in Glasgow and the west of Scotland as it shone in the night sky.

Issuing some spectacular images on social media, the UK Meteor Network said they had received over 200 reports of the 'fireball' by 10.34pm, with most coming from the central belt of Scotland and Ireland.
Travelling in an east to west direction, one Edinburgh resident told Edinburgh live: "It was visible in the west and was glowing greenish blue, with a trail, thought it was a rocket but it was going in a slow trajectory downwards.

Another managed to capture an image of their own of the fireball as it soared over the M8, with both the orb and its tail clearly visible over the late night traffic.
