Edinburgh removal van spotted outside Bute House sparks rumours

After announcing her resignation three weeks ago, Nicola Sturgeon is set to leave behind her Bute House residency.

While she doesn’t have to vacate until her replacement is sworn in locals spotted a removal van at the building on Monday, according to the Scottish Daily Express. The SNP leader is set to be replaced by either Humza Yousaf, Kate Forbes or Ash Regan.

One of them will be moving into Bute House when they are voted in as First Minister. It is not yet known when Ms Sturgeon will vacate the property in Edinburgh where First Ministers have been situated since Donald Dewar became the first one in 1999.

Eagle-eyed capital residents spotted a large blue Broughton Removals van on the street outside Bute House and posted them on Twitter sparking comments and rumours about Ms Sturgeon.

Fife Labour councillor Graeme Downie tweeted: “FM leaving early is she...?”

Ms Sturgeon announced she was stepping down in a shock move last month, holding a press conference at Bute House where she told journalists that her time was up. The ballot for SNP members to vote for the next First Minister will open next Monday and shutting a week later, with the winner being announced on March 27.

Currently, Mr Yousaf is the bookies favourite to win and is also backed by the SNP establishment with numerous cabinet ministers backing him for the top job.
