Due to the worsening cost of living crisis, many households across Scotland are unable to afford to purchase property.
With house prices high throughout the country, but particularly in Edinburgh, many people looking to move in or around the capital need to rent.
While in general this is of course far more affordable for the majority of people, there are still rented properties in Edinburgh that could quickly bankrupt you if you don't have deep pockets.

To investigate the priciest properties in the city, we took to Rightmove — and all of them are thousands of pounds per month in rent.
Here is a roundup of the five most expensive flats to rent in Edinburgh, sorted in order of monthly cost.
5. Thorburn Road
Price: £3,900 per month
Number of bedrooms: 5
Number of bathrooms: 3
The cheapest property on this roundup is incidentally also the only fully detached house. While it is unfurnished, meaning you would need to supply all decorations and fixtures, you could imagine this being a stunning family home once done up — particularly the gorgeous living room that comes with large bay window flooding the room with natural light.
What the listing says: "Beautifully presented, unfurnished five bedroom detached family home with an incredible south west facing rear garden situated in the much sought after residential area of Colinton to the south of Edinburgh's city centre."

Compared to the last property, this one isn't quite so breathtaking — but at least it's furnished. It's also in a much more central location, being just moments away from The Meadows. The inside isn't much to write home about, but would make for a perfect base for a group of students who have the money to afford it.

Again, the decor here isn't all that special. However, the skeleton of this property is gorgeous, with large rooms and high ceilings. It's also in a highly sought after location, just minutes from Princes Street. The biggest selling point might be the jacuzzi in the bathroom, though, because how many Edinburgh flats can boast that?
What the listing says: "Well presented four bedroom HMO property in the popular area of Broughton/Elm Row area and only 5 minute walk to the City Centre, Available 13th June, Furnished - professional or mature students only. This property consists of entrance hall, living room, four double bedrooms (one with en-suite), main bathroom with Jacuzzi and spacious kitchen."
