Edinburgh Princes Street shop told to tear down pop-up tent blocking busy pavement

An Edinburgh councillor has voiced his dismay over a city centre seller that put their goods display outside of their shop, blocking part of the capital's Princes Street.

This comes as Royal House of Scotland, at the corner of Princes Street and Frederick Street, was pictured having racks filled with t-shirts they sell, cluttering a vast area of the pavement outside of the shop.

The gift shop was featured in one of the Twitter posts by an Edinburgh-based account with the nickname @ClutterMuck, which aims to attract attention to city upkeeping issues.

The social media user posted the picture of the shop's cluttered front group and said: "Enough of a crush on Princes Street without half being taken up by (presumably) unauthorised shopping?"

After being approached for a comment by Edinburgh Live, Cllr Scott Arthur from the Transport and Environment Committee said: "Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have asked that it is removed.

"Council staff will remind the business that Princes Street is not a street market, and blocking the footpath with displays of goods for sale is not permitted."

A dense flow of people can also be spotted in the published photo, as the capital is bursting with tourists visiting the city to enjoy the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Edinburgh Live has attempted to contact Royal House of Scotland for comment.
